Shanty Town extend beyond Phnom Penh
Shanty Town Spirit has extended its outreach beyond Phnom Penh!
Shanty Town is now taking care of several families living
in the village of Kampong Chamlong in the district of Leukdek within Kandal
Province. Altogether there are 10 families with with 16 adults & 13
children aged between 3-15 years of age. We decided to sponsor this community after a recent visit &
was shocked at the level of poverty they were surviving in.
Most families make a menial living through working in
construction & selling small goods outside the local school, earning
between USD 30-150 per month. This does not cover their food and living expenses and certainly
not their health care needs. Most of the elderly family members are Khmer
Rouge survivors & have many health problems that need addressing
but unfortunately due to their level of poverty, they remain
untreated.
We NEED sponsors to help us in supporting these families to
improve they quality of life, in the areas of education, health, & food.
We WANT to improve their ability to become more sustainable in
terms of self employment by helping them to develop their gardens to grow more
vegetables for their own use.
Over the course of the next few months we will
introduce you to these families & give you an insight into provincial life
in Cambodia.
