School Uniform Surprises! ~ Shanty Town Spirit Ermine Norodom Association

Five of the children Shanty Town Spirit sponsors had a surprise today.

They were each given new school uniforms.

Rong (10 years old), Rat (14 years old), Leang (17 years old), Rin (10 years old) and Saravann (15 years old) were delighted to receive their gifts.

Each year they quickly outgrow their uniforms and don’t have the means to upgrade.

It is through the wonderful support of our donations that we are able to provide them with these.

However, beyond these lucky five who have been sponsored, there are still many other children who deserve an education but due to extreme poverty, don’t have the opportunity. No education means children stay illiterate and have little chance to break through the poverty cycle.

Education is not free in Cambodia. Not only do children have to pay their teachers for each class they attend but they also need the transportation to get there, pens/ pencils to write with, and books/paper to write on. Not to mention the mandatory school uniform.

When you live in a slum barely surviving, school falls to the bottom of the priority list for these families.
