Stepping out of the Slum: Sokea's first internship
Shanty Town Spirit secured a partnership with long-term corporate supporter Infinity Insurance, to enable suitable program candidates to undertake internships with the world-class insurance provider.

Infinity Insurance provided its first internship opportunity to 18 year old Sokea whom Shanty Town Spirit has been supporting for the past seven years. For the next three-months, he will be working at Infinity's head office in the heart of Phnom Penh, being mentored by staff in the ins and outs of the insurance industry.
So far Sokea has learnt about underwriting and claims; preparing documents and helping some clients if they need something, and
sometimes venturing out on the road to observe how the staff interact with clients.

Sokea says he's grateful for the opportunity, "I will use all these skills I've learnt to develop myself for my next career because it’s
important, and I will use it again and more better than this time."
Reflecting on his first formal work experience, "I realise that work is not easy and you will not succeed if you don’t have focus," says Sokea.
Shanty Town Spirit is proud of Sokea's progress and hopes to support more of their young people into internships to help them experience something other than what they are used to and help them to develop skills and future ambitions.
