NGO - Solidarity : A house for Yin Sidon
This 63 years old Cambodian grandmother lives in the town of Kampong Chamlong, Kandal province, about thirty minutes from Phnom Penh. During a visit with her colleagues from the Shanty Town Spirit program, the president of the NGO Ermine Norodom had the opportunity to talk with Yin Sodin, and to see that, behind his smile lurks misery and extremely difficult living conditions. Yin Sodin survives in her cabin under five square meters offering babysitting for families surroundings. This activity brings her barely enough to survive, she earns about forty dollars a month.

With little help of her neighbors, the old lady survives about, but never had the opportunity to live in a decent place. Her hut located along the road allows her some space to cook and to sleep, that’s all. Unfortunately, over the years the structure has deteriorated, they are on the verge of collapsing and walls dotted with holes and tears, are leaking. With the onset of the monsoon, it rains inside, with all the health risks that come up: proliferation of mosquitoes and associated diseases (dengue).

Ermine Norodom and his association have decided to help and renovate the small house for the old lady so that she can live safe and eventually work at home. Quotes were prepared by local companies for the supply and installation of aluminum sheets. The total work amounts to eight hundred US dollars. Buying a single bed, a table and a little linen is valued at US $ 150. The amount of the total project is then 950 US $.
