Let's remind that several families in this poor community get the support of the Ermine Norodom association by providing rice, clothing, school and health care for children from several families. ''...we had the great privilege of tagging along with Princess Ermine Norodom, who has dedicated her life to getting families out of the slums. Ermine is Cambodian royalty through marriage to a Cambodian Prince. She truly is an angel. 3 times a week, she visits her slums to give food, money, help and most important to her, education. It's heartbreaking, tireless, thankless work. The parents in the slums are too lazy to help and see nothing wrong with living there. Many are alcoholics. I've added descriptions to all the photos and they flow chronologically. This is a place that not many people go. It's easy to miss, down a claustrophobically thin alley between two buildings. Feel free to ask questions or to comment. It's hard to capture it all in words and pictures, but this is a real place, and these children are real children, just like ours. They matter...''

Diana : Volunteering with Shanty Town Spirit program

The experience of Diana Pires

In 2016, I decided to head to Phnom Penh, Cambodia to do a volunteer work in the slums. What I found out when I was there was that, as much as you want to help, you have to send 100s of e-mails to all different kind of people of all different NGOs that usually at the end tell you that they don't need/don't want any volunteer work. This is a joke, right? All these kids collecting trash from the streets all day, eating from it, all these kids needing for education, all these people needing for food, for medication, surgeries, love, friendship, hug or a smile... and you don't need any volunteers? Then I met Adono Krose. An extraordinary woman who adopted 7 amazing kids from Cambodia. She invited me to have dinner at her house, where she and her friend cooked amazing indian food, full of love and kidness. We played and sing all together, we shared some culture and special lots of love. It was, sincerely, one of the best days I've ever had. Thank you beautiful woman.

Ermine Norodom, what can I say about you and Shanty Town Spirit?

I met Ermine almost randomly in Phnom Penh. We sat in a coffee place where she explained to me her amazing work. Almost working by herself, Ermine gets as many sponsers as she can to help in the slums. Remember when we got them sunglasses and scarfs? It was a delight. Every week, we used to go to the slums to give to these families clothes, food and medication. In the morning I used to wake up and give them English lessons. The mainly goal for the kids is to give them education, go to school and don't collect trash from the streets. It's with my heart full of love and compassion, that I thank you, my beautiful friend, for the continuous amazing work you do over there. You're heart stores many smiles and tears. My angel. Shanty town Spirit and the slums of Boeung Trabek by NGO AMUR

Princess Ermine Norodom is the founder of the Shanty town Spirit program, that supports a few poor families in Boeng Trabek in central Phnom Penh. We went with Ermine to see the work she was doing, and to distribute some baked cakes and clothes to the people who live there.

Ermine supports disvantaged sisters who are now single mothers with one baby, so we bought a box of powdered milk each to each mum and donated a lot of the baby clothes you generously gave us. At the same time, Ermine was distributing bread and unsold cakes donated by the bakery Éric Kayser. Many smiles despite the living conditions that are more than precarious ... We will help Ermine to support her in this program by distributing food in order to improve their daily meals.

Documentary - Photography : Gabriella Wright visits Shanty Town Spirit community

Before Flying back to her country, the english-french actress Gabriella Wright, who was in Phnom Penh for a few days, took some of her precious time to visit the Shanty Town Spirit Community in Boeung Trabek. This program is part of the Ermine Norodom association action aimed at improving the life conditions, and to provide education to the kids of this poor community. Dicover the Better World Forum

A wonderful evening with our children from Boeung Trabek community

This night was a great time with the children. We brought them from their community to a dinner, at Domino's Pizza. It was a great pleasure for us to share an evening with the them, simple dinner that became a special night for all of us. For some of the kids, it was their first time at a Pizzas restaurant.  It's always amazing to to share happiness with them. Seeing them united and happy is so wonderful.

Une Magnifique soirée avec nos enfants venant des bidonvilles. Cette soirée a été un superbe moment avec les enfants.  Nous avons emmené nos enfants des bidonvilles pour un diner, dans une pizzeria.  Cela a été un enorme plaisir pour nous de pouvoir partager une soirée avec ces enfants, un simple diner qui s’est transformé en soirée très spéciale pour tous ces jeunes. Pour certains cela était la première pizza de leur vie. C’est toujours merveilleux de leur faire vivre ce genre de joie et de la partager avec eux.  Les voir unis et heureux est toujours fantastique pour toute notre équipe.

Van Syleang will be back in school in September !

We lived a very important moment for this young boy, Van Syleang, we know him since six years. After some issues with his teacher; he was not admitted at school anymore despite his efforts. As you know the scholarship of the children is our main goal, so we actually worked hard to find a solution for this young man.

Finally, we found an agreement with PSE, they admitted Van Syleang from September and for the rest of his studies. He also realized during this visit that he wanted to work as a chef in the future, a training proposed by PSE. We hope we will continue to work with PSE in the future, and that this young man will realize his dreams thanks to this joint work.  We want to thanks Pour un Sourire d'Enfant - Cambodia again.

Van Syleang sera de retour sur les bancs de l’école en Septembre! Nous avons vécu cette semaine un moment très important pour ce jeune homme, Van Syleang, nous le connaissons depuis déjà 6ans, et après quelques problèmes avec son professeur, malgré tous ses efforts il n’a plus été accepté en cours. Comme vous le savez l’éducation des enfants dont nous nous occupons est notre but principal, donc nous avons fait tout notre possible pour trouver une solution pour ce jeune garçon.

Nos objectifs étant forcément les mêmes pour l’éducation des enfants défavorisés, nous avons trouvé un accord avec PSE, qui accepte Van Syleang à partir de Septembre et pour le reste de ses études. Durant cette visite Van Syleang a aussi réalisé qu’il voulait travailler en tant que cuisinier dans l’avenir, une formation proposée par PSE. Nous espérons pouvoir continuer à travailler avec PSE à l’avenir, et que ce jeune homme pourra réaliser ces rêves grâce à notre travail commun.

Shanty Town Spirit visit the training center in Takeo Province

The team of Shanty Town Spirit had the pleasure to visit again the training center Mercy in Takeo Province.

It was amazing to share a moment with the boys.

Shanty Town Spirit want to create trusty links with the Mercy organization, in the aim to develop their actions.

During this visit we provide the children some hygiene, school materials and clothes as we do for the kids in Phnom Penh.

L'équipe de Shanty Town Spirit a eu le plaisir de visiter le centre de formation de la province de Takeo. Partager un moment avec ces enfants a été un moment très particulier pour notre équipe, Nous espérons pouvoir aider le centre de formation et de créer de vrais liens de confiance avec l'organisme. Durant notre visite nous avons fournis aux enfants des fournitures scolaires, des vêtements ou encore du matériel d'hygiène, car comme nous le faisons pour nos familles à Phnom Penh, nous souhaitons aussi assurer à ses enfants l'éducation et la santé.

Shanty Town International's Team at the launch of Together 1 Heart

The team of Shanty Town International and Shanty Town Spirit were united on June, 25 of 2016 in Los Angeles and had the pleasure to participate to the lunch of Together 1 Heart with all the team of the organization.

The mission of this brand new organization is to eradicate human trafficking, sexual exploitation and modern-day slavery, and to empower survivors as the most effective means of accomplishing these goals.
